Non-woven fabric and plastic welding by ultrasonic welding machine
I. Advantages of Ultrasonic Welding for Non-woven Fabrics
Efficient and Pollution-free Welding
No traditional needles, threads, or adhesives are required. Instead, high-frequency vibrations cause the thermoplastic components of non-woven fabrics (such as PP and PET) to melt and bond locally, avoiding adhesive residue or chemical contamination and meeting medical and hygiene product standards.
Preservation of Material Functionality
After welding, the non-woven fabric retains its breathability and elasticity, with no frayed edges or cracks, avoiding strength loss or leakage risks caused by traditional sewing.
Simultaneous processes such as embossing, perforating, and cutting can be achieved (e.g., breathable holes in filter materials, perforations in medical dressings).
II. Ultrasonic welding of non-woven fabric and plastic parts
Material compatibility
Suitable for composite welding of all thermoplastic plastics (PP, PE, ABS, etc.) with non-woven fabric, such as the connection between the plastic interface and the non-woven fabric body of a vacuum cleaner dust bag.
The specially designed weld head tooth shape ensures concentrated energy, achieving a secure bond between the plastic part and the non-woven fabric (e.g., welding the plastic frame of a vacuum cleaner filter bag).
Process Control Points
Amplitude and Pressure Adjustment: Excessively high amplitude or pressure may cause material deformation; these parameters must be matched to material thickness (typically plastic part thickness ≤5mm).
Distance control: The distance between the welding head and the welding surface should be close to half the wavelength to optimise thermal energy transfer efficiency.
III. Application examples in vacuum cleaner and robotic vacuum cleaner dust bags
Improved Sealing and Strength
Dust bags require high sealing to prevent dust leakage. Ultrasonic welding achieves seamless edge sealing, avoiding dust leakage caused by traditional stitching gaps, while withstanding repeated inflation and deflation pressures.
Production Efficiency and Cost Optimisation
Automated welding integration: By integrating an automated ultrasonic production line, bulk welding of plastic interfaces and non-woven fabric in dust collection bags can be achieved efficiently and at high speed.
Compared to hot melt processes: This saves over 30% in adhesive costs and eliminates adhesive overflow issues, enhancing product aesthetics.
